Why do people like your profile on dating apps, then ignore you when you send a friendly hello message?

Update:

Why bother liking at all!!

Just b/c they found you attractive doesn't mean they want a date. It was like...kudos/thumbs up but next.

Because apparently whatever you said in this message didn't distinguish you as being an interesting person. The first "like" or swipe is usually just based on appearance but if you don't have a personality to back up those good looks most people will just move on.

Maybe after you send your hello message, they decide they don't like you so much after all.

Because sometimes people accidentally like your profile OR they genuinely find your picture attractive but then they read your profile and they don't like what you wrote.

Beyond liking the profile in the safety of one's own surroundings, some people may be hesitant to actually engage with particular others if they are not completely sure about the next step to take.

How dating apps (for straight people) work

Women - receive hundreds of likes, have to wade through them to find anyone decent.

Men - send hundreds of likes, receive very little response.

In short, women receive far too much attention and men receive far too little.

Exactly. Women get literally hundreds of requests for dates while men get only a handful. There are lots more men seeking women than women seeking men.
