For Ukraine/Biden to "benefit" Trump in the election, Biden would have to be the nominee. Yet the nomination was more than a year and a half?

...away when Giuliani first started looking into unresolved questions in January of 2019.

None of this can withstand so much as a puff of reason.

How could it be for his personal benefit unless he's some kind of fortune teller?

Especially considering that, at that time, Biden had sworn NOT to enter the race?

Republicans have advanced this argument before, but it doesn't really hold water for at least two reasons.

First off, well certainly true that the Democrats are not chosen their nominee yet, that does not mean that the actions would not benefit Trump. He could very well have assumed that Biden would win the nomination. And the fact that he may have been wrong in that assumption does not change the corrupt nature of what he did. I mean, think about it, if Trump would do this to Joe Biden then why wouldn't you do it to whoever ends up with the Democratic nomination?

The other problem is that Trump may have been doing this specifically in order to influence the primary. While polls show that basically all of the Democrats in the race would beat Trump in a head-to-head matchup, they also show that Joe Biden is the one who beats him by the largest margin. Biden has a more than 10 point lead over Trump according to the polls which were released during the summer. This is more than other Democrats including Elizabeth Warren, the current FrontRunner, who beats Trump by about eight points. Trump may very well have been trying to influence the Democratic primary by smearing Joe Biden bus hopefully knocking him out of the race and obtaining a Democratic opponent who would be easier for him to beat.

Biden was the biggest threat to Trump.

I'm pretty sure that Trump would try to act to weaken his strongest competitor in hopes of weakening him and leaving the voters with a weaker one they aren't as big on, thus believing he can weaken the election as a whole for dems... If Biden has done that strongly in the polls, why would Trump want to risk letting him strengthen further.

Nixon got in trouble for cheating in an election he was winning by a mile.  He was never behind McGovern, in fact never even close.  That didn't stop him!

Biden was out in front of the pack.  Perhaps Trump's plan was to smear Biden long before the primaries, to take him out of the race, hoping that would put the Democrats in disarray.

Nixon had nothing to do with the Watergate break-in. He discussed a cover-up. Ben Stein, his speechwriter and economics consultant, insists he did not personally approve the cover-up. Only discussed it. Yet, he contends, that is a criminal offense. A minor one.

Bwahahahaha, you expect Trump to be rational and logical. He is neither.

Japanese imperialists made the same mistake you're making. They thought the U.S. was a bunch of dumb hicks and would be a pushover to defeat.

There were no unresolved questions about Biden and what he did in the Ukraine. Trump still denies Russian interference in our election which Trumps own DOJ has confirmed.

Trump just makes crap up, I think he actually believes much of the crap he says without having any evidence.

And if there is nothing left undone, why not let Ukraine and Giuliani prove that?

Trump made the phone call on July 25, 2019. Biden announced his candidacy on April, 25, 2019. According to this link, Giuliani first started shoving his nose into Ukraine In May, 2019.

Do you have a link showing Giuliani started this in January, and that he said he would NOT be running? Even if you do,  I'd say Trump wanted to do as much damage to the Bidens as he can. That's the kind of person he is.
