What will happen if the world's population drops to 770 million people?

Will abortions and homosexual relationships be prohibited? What do you think? (I've recently watched Owari no Seraph, haha.)

That's about the number the planet had in about 1760 and society certainly wasn't falling apart because of it. But for our 7+ billion to be reduced to that would likely mean some major pandemic had wiped out most of humanity. So it wouldn't just be a small population but a traumatized one as well. Hard to say what that would look like but I doubt things like abortion and homosexuality would be first and foremost in anyone's mind. At this point anything we can do to stem population growth is a positive.

The last time that we have records of a population drop was in Europe in the Middle Ages.  The plague reduced the population by about one third.  As there was little mobility, you can use this as a proxy for a global event today.

The first thing that happened is that agriculture shrank because there was nobody to till the land.  So farmland reverted to forest which triggered what is known as the little ice age.  Wars broke out because of food shortages creating refugees, famine and more shortages.  Each succeeding generation was poorer than the one before.

The people worried about climate change are focusing on the wrong problem.  A global population drop is a very real risk 50 years from now.  It would be catastrophic.

fearmongering bullcrap. We've been cutting down several times the area of Belgium every year for decades. there were fewer than a billion humans before the "little ice-age"

drops how? Slowly and evenly across the globe?

We will stop worrying about the housing shortage.

There would be no point in prohibiting homosexual relations

Liberal democrats and socialists will pat themselves

on the back for the success of their population-busting

idea of using subliminal messaging to promote same-gender

    relationships and voluntary sterility.

That way, they can vote for each other too!
