how do you announce the death of an employee to company employees, by intranet, or face to face

It’s better to do it face to face because it’s a very serious thing and should be addressed properly.

Intranet is the best way. Face to face in a meeting or individually is too emotional and distracting.

I unfortunately had to do it twice to a department of about 60 people, and did it face to face with small groups, first telling a couple people individually who were particularly close to the person at work. One time I went to the home of an employee who was particularly close to the person who died, but was off that day.

Depends on the size of the company. We had a co-worker die who was in our office. We were notified in person (there's like 10 of us), the rest of the company was notified by email.
