Rod Stewart or Marvin Gaye?

A matter of preference, of course, and I enjoy them both, but in a way it's comparing apples and oranges. Marvin Gaye was an original with his own distinct style, while Rod Stewart copied his from Sam Cooke. BTW, I believe artists should be judged by their best work, so I wouldn't hold Rod's later career against him in a comparison.
