What percentage of scientists are childless?

    Childlessness by age 45 doubled from 9% (born 1946) to 18% in a generation (born 1971).    But these figures have varied throughout history as settlers expanded into new lands and urbanisation occurred. The waxing and waning of  economies has also seen the figure rising and falling.  

    Maybe there are just slightly more child-free scientists because of careers, but don't forget they earn more and so can easily access support networks. You're not going to find evidence that scientists are androids no matter how hard you try.
