Does a Verizon network work in England?

No. Verizon's network is US only.
There are other, different cellphone carriers in other countries with which Verizon has roaming agreements. Assuming your phone is relatively new and considered a "world phone", you should be able to use the phone (data, voice, text) in other countries just fine.
Contact Verizon BEFORE you travel internationally to be sure your account profile allows international roaming.
BE CAREFUL: Roaming charges can add up REALLY quickly. Use WiFi as much as you can.

No. They may have carrier agreements for roaming with English carriers but they themselves don't operate there.

I doubt it because the frequencies are different especially 3G. The US uses CMDA, while England uses UMTS. If your phone is LTE it could work in England.

no one works in england, they all are on benefits and living in council flats, and enjoy smoking next to a cenotaph on remembrance day
