can you sell stock lower than its value?...to sell it faster!?
- RichardLv 73 weeks ago
That is exactly how the market works. If you want to sell your stock for, say $50, and nobody wants to buy it, you will have to offer it for sale for less than $50.

Depends on the number of shares being traded and what market you are trading in.
If you are trading odd lots on an exchange, a market order will execute within a second of the order being entered. - You ain't going to get it executed any faster regardless of how much lower you're dumb enough to use.
Round lots up to 500 shares on an exchange or OTC will execute within a few seconds. Being dumb enough to lower the bid/ask will not get the order executed any faster.
Block trades on an exchange can be executed within a few minutes, and those entering such orders are never dumb enough to try not to get the best price.Source(s): from The Street

most companies sell almost instantly once you submit the sell order to your broker. Why would you want to sell for less?
- ArimatthewdaviesLv 73 weeks ago
Yes you can sell stock for less than the current market price if you want to get out from under it

It would be easier to throw cash out your car window as you drive.

Sort of. But just because the sell price is lower than the market price doesn't mean there will be buyers. It also depends on your volume. But if the price is 15 dollars, you can't offer it for 10. You can put the bottom sell limit at 10 but the first buyer less than 14.99, them it will sell

Sure. And if you want an even worse price, you can do it in the pre or post market period. (Where the bid/ask spread is usually a lot wider)
Generally though, the price you see is the price you get.
If its $44.99 bid and $45 ask, you should get 44.99 unless someone beat you to it and you placed a market order in which case you might get a little less.
Your bigger problem is you don't own a stock and therefore you cannot sell it.

Well its value IS what you can sell it for, most of my market order trades fill before the screen refreshes so not sure how much faster you need to get.

Yes. When you sell a stock you can choose "market price" or set your own asking price.
This is in fact the mechanism by which stock prices fall: people offer to sell at a lower price because they can't find enough buyers at a higher price.

You can sell anything to anyone who will buy it, even for pennies. The same goes for stock.
