what the hell is the definition of a good taste in music these days?
I have no clue? I'm stuck in 2002....

Good taste, being subjective, never did have much of a connection with the Zeitgeist of popular music.

As has always been the case, musical taste is very subjective, and often depends on the peer group thinking more than the merits of the music. It is a social group identification indicator, to varying extent (some individuals are way more pliant than others), much like clothing styles. The two are often linked pretty strongly, actually.

I think that "Beethoven and Bach are great, and Debussy is putrid twinkle twinkle twiddle" is just as good a definition now as it was 17 years ago.

Granted the latest music waves seem to be vapid
yet many of the lyrics are very, very good.
We all have the tendency to be very attached to
the music of our most free - from -the rat-race years!
Search out recent composers and such - there's some good music around
although much of it is progressive since 2002 :) an acquired taste for many of us
no longer in our greener years.

There has never been a universal definition of 'good taste in music'. One person's 'good taste' is another person's snoozefest; one person's inspiring traditional folk song may be another person's unbearable kitch.
