One person has commented that Prince Philip of Greece is not German.
However, his mother was Princess Alice of Battenberg in Germany:-

People are brainwashed to see nation states and to believe so absolutely in national borders and the paperwork that establishes identity that they are blinded to the actual facts of where royal families come from. The overwhelming vast majority hail from the Germanic states of the old Holy Roman Empire. Look carefully at the genealogy from King George I who was also the king of Hannover in Germany, and check out each generation after him down to Victoria: with the exception of like one Danish princess, all of the wives who married into the royal family were German princesses. Then Victoria's mother was a German princess, a Saxe-Coburg and the sister of Prince Albert's father. Elizabeth and Prince Phillip are like the great-grandchildren of Victoria and Prince Albert, themselves cousins, who married each other. Although officially and legally "Greek", Philip came from the Greek Royal family which is a branch of the Danish royal house of Sonderburg-Glucksberg-Holstein and mostly German. They also have several Russian Grand Duchesses in their line which is nice as far as bringing in Orthodox wives, but the Romanoffs of Russia are similarly mostly German, themselves the decendants of Catherine the Great, a German princess from Anhalt-Zerbst, and there was plenty of Mecklenburg and Holstein in the Romanoffs also. Watch Season 2 of "The Crown" and see that Phillip had sisters married to high ranking Nazis in Germany, and spent part of his youth in Nazi Germany. All true. Although hidden behind different "nationalities", most Royalty are mostly German by blood.

People who actually study the backgrounds of the family do. Philip is Danish-German-Russian-English according to historians. It is only xenophobes and a certain group of people who say the Philip is solely German. These people fail to see facts. Philip was born in Greece, a member of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg royal house. This royal house was assigned the throne of Greece. Greece had a family that was Danish-German-Russian reign until the monarchy was ended.
Philip was born in Greece, lived in France, Germany before moving to the United Kingdom to stay with his British-based and born relatives. And under succession rules, as a descendant of the Stuart family ancestor, Sophia of Hanover, Philip was born a British citizen.

Prince Philip was Danish.

Princess Alice was born in Windsor Castle, thus, although born with a German title from a morganatic line of the Hessian Grand Ducal family, she was a British subject by birth.
Prince Andrew was a Greek Prince of Danish ethnicity. Denmark is not and never has been German!!!

A lot of royals claim titles that common sense would say they are not entitled to. For example, Elizabeth Mountbatten-Windsor claims to be Queen of Australia despite not being Australian and not even having a work visa. Sir Prince Philip is apparently Danish.

What does it matter?
Most people really don't care about other people's ancestry.

Where his mother was born has nothing to do with it. The UK is full of africans but if they are born here they aren't africans. If Philip is German are our africans not British. Hopefully you are right and we can send the africans home!

Whilst you are correct that his mother was German, she married Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and he was the result of that marriage, being born in Greece. Therefore he is actually Greek.
That's why he's commonly known as Phil the Greek.
