Why do we praise wealthy people so much for philanthropy as if it's some selfless act?

I have no idea, it's kind of sickening to me since they get it all back on taxes. The praiseworthy are like Alex Fischer, 9, and her younger sister, Caroline, 6, who are hosting lemonade stands this year (third year they've done this) to buy Thanksgiving meals and donate them to Charlotte Rescue Mission’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey and Food Box Drive. They get nothing out of their selflessness.

It is a write off, a tax deduction for them but it makes them look good.
