Are ferrets legal in nyc?

Plan to move from uk to New York City in the following year, are ferrets legal? If so, I think I heard they’re illegal to buy but not to own? So can I bring them from the uk to nyc?

Are YOU legally permitted to move here?  You and your illegal critters can not just "take a coach to visit family" ( as you asked previously) and then just stay.  Please clarify.

Ferrets are illegal to own in NYC without a license, and the license is not easy to get.

There are animal ownership and care laws at every level of goverment. There are now also considerations among pet, emotional support, and those helping a physical handicap, and raising for food, and for display or show performance.

"identifies animals which cannot be sold, given, received, kept, harbored or exhibited in New York City"

"(4)  All fur bearing mammals of the family Mustelidae, including, but not limited to, weasel, marten, mink, badger, ermine, skunk, otter, pole cat, zorille, wolverine, stoat and ferret." The ferret is Mustela putorius furo

My thought is the biggest issue in New York City is probably the lack of natural predators of ferrets if they escape. And there is always a thought that ferrets eat rats, but the city doesn't need ferrets eating diseased rats. Remember what happened in Australia with rabbits.  It could also be trying to control by classification, as a ferret is a domesticated pole cat, and they don't want wild pole cats.
