For many many many many years to come, certainly long after we are all dead and forgotten and our children and grand children and great grand children.

As long as the British wish to be a constitutional monarchy it will remain such. There is not enough support for a referendum to end the monarchy. For the majority of Britons, the monarchy represents a unifying, stable constitutional force that is above mere party politics. A republic was in place during the Cromwell period and the people did not like it.

The monarchy will end after this Queenโ€™s death. It is currently being kept in place out of respect for her long reign and her age. The majority do not want to continue the antiquated pantomime. Itโ€™s a total anachronism in this day and age. After the monarchy ends, the tourists will still come for the history and the sights. In fact, the tourists will then have full access year-round to royal palaces and castles. As it is now, the public has little access to these sights with the royals residing in them. The people who are royal now will then become basic citizens like the rest of us and will reside in their own private property.ย

Given the alternative, I doubt the system we have in the UK is going to change in the foreseeable future.

the sooner it ends the better but after the queen ( who for unknown reasons is very popular) the rest of the "royal" family have many image problems and the monarchy may finally be displaced as it was by oliver cromwell who ( stupidly) re-instated it 10 years later
