what metal is the attached photo?. it is whitish or silver in color in my view?

all metals except copper and gold are that color. No way to tell.
If there is no sign of rust, it could be stainless steel, or steel plated with stainless or chrome or possibly zinc.
Visually it could be "white metal", a zinc alloy, but that would be too fragile to support any weight.

Either chrome plated or stainless steel. If old and rusted in spots it is chrome plated. Stainless steel cost much more.

My guess would be stainless steel, but without seeing it up close I wouldn't guarantee that answer to be correct.

There is absolutely no way to tell. So many metals are the same color.
