Whenever there is a deadly force situation if there's a person that has a deadly weapon that they're using upon the public or directing it towards the police. It's time for deadly force. But friend when there is a single man approaching some police officers with a pocket knife held out in his hand acting stupid and waving it around you don't have to shoot him you can spray the crap out of him with tear gas if you want to but there's no need to kill a person that's out of his mind on dope and acting stupid

Everyone should use deadly force under the same rules; in defense of yourself or others, to prevent bodily harm or death. Keep in mind that police officers are civilians ... they are subject to civil law as compared to members of the Armed Forces that are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). A law enforcement officer has no more right to use deadly force than any other civilian. What the law enforcement officer has is a legal obligation to engage bad guys. So if someone is beating you to death, I can ignore it and go grocery shopping. A law enforcement officer is required to intervene and potentially use deadly force.

To protect their own lives and/or the lives of innocent civilians. Any credible threat of serious bodily harm would be sufficient.
