Identity politics is bringing race and other demographics a part of the political agenda.

    Some examples:

Kamala Harris saying all blacks should get housing grants, rather than all poor people.

Trudeau selecting his cabinet based on sex, rather than just qualification.

Black lives matter gather than all lives matter.

    Affirmative Action

    Women owned business advantages

Identity politics is essentially pushing a discriminatory agenda.

Its basically how democrats cater to voters to just get votes instead of holding true to their morals and values. Oh wait democrats have no morals or values

A play to get someone's vote by appealing to that person's perceived racial discrimination. Real or imagined, no race that looks for pity from the government will ever be respected. A race must earn its place by showing strength in the face of discrimination, not by appealing to the government.

Racist in the extreme. It assumes all people will vote a certain way based solely on their race.

A group that pushes a policy beneficial to that group. In some ways, it’s a race proposal.

It's when specific groups of people (African Americans, LGBT community, etc.) come together to promote policy that benefits their group. It's not even exclusive to the Democratic party, Republicans have their own identity politics too. White nationalism is a big one that comes to mind. It's divisive for obvious reasons, and never gets anywhere.

The phrase is trendy and a tautology. Politics has always been about identity, hasn’t it? That’s why some people are Republicans and some Democrats, some are liberals and others conservatives, etc.

I first started noticing it years ago when I first started hearing the world liberals a whole lot. Before that in the USA, I had never heard Americans talk about a whole swath of the population and trying to portray them as evil and enemies to be demonized. That was when the divide and conquer strategy began...

It's believing simply having a different skin color makes you better than someone.

It's no different than what the Nazis believed in, Democrats and Nazis are just socialists.
