A fresh potato is peeled, weighed and soaked in a strong salt solution it is discovered that the potato has lost weight. Is this true? WHY?

    I think that it is possible through osmosis. If the potato surface of the potato is a semipermeable membrane, water will flow through it from the inside of the potato where the concentration of salt is lower to the outside where it is higher.

    That is an excellent idea. Soak yourself in a salt solution for about a month and let us know how much you have lost. You will have to be completely submerged though... A troll can maintain weight for 2 months if it is exposed to air. Please get back to us in a month.

    It's not possible for a potato to just lose mass.
