Can you still make something of your life, in spite of a criminal background?

    That would depend on the crime, the conviction, and how many convictions you have. If you are felon, forget living, although you might be able to survive, by leeching off others. One minor screw up when you are young - you can still live. Some crimes/convictions will prevent you from obtaining certain licenses and jobs.

    Yes, that's why most prisons have education on how to be self employed.
