Why do people vote this way? ?
Why do people vote for whoever claims to be a democrat or Republican instead of educating themselves to vote for someone who might actually do good for our country?

People don't. Some people do.
Democracy is the toughest form of government. Because to vote smartly we have to know the issues and the candidates, and we have to weed fake news out from real news as we learn them.
Political research takes time and money. Some Americans find that a major distraction; so they prefer to vote for the best speaker, the best looking, and the one who's running on their Party's ticket.
Then once they've made their choice and cast their vote, they tend to stick with the candidate they voted for because to vote someone else next time would be to admit to themselves that they made a mistake the first time. In other words they'll let the country go down the drain rather than change their vote for the good of the nation.

They go with the party they believe represents their interests best. Informed voters usually vote the issues though and don't much care about the flavor various candidates claim to be.

Some are brainwashed by a party and doesn't care what their agenda is as long as their party wins. Most are to uneducated to do actual research into what their party actually wants to do. Especially the Democrits as they love and strive to keep the poor down and under their control with bigger government so they do not have to actually think for themselves but be told what to do, when, and how to get more freebies which are always promoused but seldom delivered.

Until there is a changing in voting systems, on the national level, major parties will be the only ones that matter.

I voted for Nader, 3 times I think, and what did it get me? All I ever get is blame for throwing the election to W.

Because only a Repub or Dem can win because only those parties have national committees who will fund and nominate them. These two committees will pick someone who is in line with their ideas but who they think can win. You've heard the Democrat debates, they dont explain as individuals what they can do differently from each other and dont give any specifics. So how can anyone choose any of them?

Educating yourself takes time that could otherwise be devoted to sports, celebrity gossip or social media. It's far more efficient to just pick one political team or the other and allow them to do all of your thinking for you.

Most people either don't care or are too disgusted by politics to invest enough time to educate themselves, especially when most of the information out there is highly spun propaganda.
