Why did Jesus get descended into Hell before he ascended into Heaven? What was the purpose?

JESUS DID NOT GO TO THE FIERY HELL!
By his death and Resurrection, Jesus opened heaven . Prior to that time all who died went to "hell"; however, the just went to a place in hell referred to as "the Bosom of Abraham," where they would be comforted. The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31) seems to indicate that there were two parts of hell. Both Lazarus and the rich man died and went to hell, but Lazarus was comforted in the bosom of Abraham while the rich man was in a place of torment. A great chasm separated the two parts.NOTE THAT THEY DID NOT DENY JESUS SIMPLY BECAUSE JESUS WAS NOT BORN AND RESURRECTED AS YET. WHERE SOULS NOW A DAYS SOME DENY JESUS, THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

Modern scripture shows that Jesus didn't personally go among the spirits of the wicked, but sent emissaries from among the righteous dead. He was too holy to be in hell.

God is always fair and just, He gave those who did not have a chance to believe
in Jesus an opportunity to believe.
After Jesus was crucified he went to those who have died before
and gave them the opportunity to accept and believe in the Son of God.
Ephesians 4:8 “Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.”
Ephesians 4:9 “(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?”
1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”
1 Peter 3:19 “By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;”

Early Bibles didn't say that. They said he "... descended into the lower parts of the earth.", i.e., "sheol", and it was mistranslated. Hell didn't become part of Christian doctrine until the 5th century when Augustine created it, based on the Greek Tartarus, to scare and intimidate Christians who's faith was wavering.

Read that passage carefully, noting the phrase "but made alive by the SPIRIT BY WHOM also He went and preached to the spirits in prison." [alive then, dead now] 1 Peter 3:18-19 "who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, …" Note that the "spirits" were alive during the days of Noah, but dead when Peter wrote it, and the SPIRIT did the "preaching" in Noah's time and place.

He didn't "get" descended. He descended into hell to lead out the righteous who had waited there since the first sin.Source(s): Greek Orthodox Christian

To "lead captivity captive" which I understand to mean that He led the Old Testament saints out of Hades.

To show that he can do the same tricks that Hercules did. And more!!! Talk about marketing.

Jesus proclaimed that the work of salvation was complete, so that those who died as believers would be carried up to heaven. Unbelievers remain in hell, of course.
Nobody can be good enough to avoid hell. The truth is that death leads to immediate heaven or hell, depending only on whether the person believed in Jesus for eternal life, or not.
The truth is that Jesus loves you and wants to bless your life freely :) Most of all, Jesus wants you with Him forever, and not in hell. The truth is that every belief except one will lead to eternal torment in the lake of fire for every person. Because nothing pays for our sins except the death and blood of Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus that is already accomplished by Him . Jesus loves you! The truth is that Jesus is God, and Jesus died on the cross to pay for all of our sins in full, and then Jesus resurrected from the dead. Nothing else pays for our sins, not works, not deeds, not religions. So the only way to heaven and to avoid hell, is by believing in Jesus for eternal life (John 6:47), without adding any of your own works (Romans 4:5). Believe in Jesus to take you to heaven, and you will be in heaven, no matter what, guaranteed. That easy, thanks to Jesus! Tell Jesus that you thank Him that you will be with Him in heaven when you die, because you believe in Jesus! It is too late to be saved, after death
