What does it mean when hundreds of seagulls flying around in cylinder circle, looked like a tornado?
I was walking my dog when I looked up there were hundreds of seagulls. They seem to follow us home, still in that tornado formation. But once we reached our yard they left? Any ideas??

They were catching a thermal to gain altitude or were following a garbage truck.

Gulls ride "lift". A thermal updraft is the same shape as a tornado. The gulls were riding a thermal that drifted in the same direction as you were going.Source(s): 30 years of glider (sailplane) flying
