Is it true what Sherlock Holmes says about London, that you should always carry a firearm east of Aldgate?

Whilst visiting various opium dens in that vicinity, I’m sure he needed one. All in the aid of science and gnarly detective investigation of course.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character from the late Victorian / Edwardian era.

Modern laws label carrying a firearm in London to be illegal, unless you're specifically permitted to (eg armed police)
