is it bad to be 5'2 and 80 lbs?

    Yes, unless you just survived cancer/chemo, in which case -- congratulations.

    According to the BMI (body mass index) calculator I used, yes, it would be. This results in the BMI being 14.6 which is below a healthy weight (anywhere between 18.5 and 24.9).

    Know however, that the BMI calculator is only a rough guide, and it has its limitations i.e.:-

    - it doesn't take into consideration that body muscle is four times as dense as the same quantity of body fat. This is how someone who is very muscularly developed and physically fit - such as a professional athlete - would actually be classed as morbidly obese.

    - it doesn't take into consideration that some people purely have heavy bones.

    - it can underestimate body fat in people who have lost muscle, such as through aging.

    - it's unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, because it won't take lactation or fetal growth into consideration.

    According to the BMI scale, that is considered underweight.
