No, it’s illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual in employment in the U.S. (with a few minor exceptions). Women can be and are lawyers, doctors, CEOs, and senators.
Men however, more so than women work more hours, have longer careers, take less time out of the workforce, etc which is often what it takes to rise to the top.

The glass ceiling, in terms of job positions, can be defined as an intangible barrier within a hierarchy that prevents women and minorities from being promoted into upper-level positions.[1] Removing the glass ceiling is the act of taking away this invisible barrier for women and minorities to move up into upper-level positions. In the U.S., only 5% of women are running a Fortune 500 company which is equivalent to twenty-five companies. In the U.S., feminists will use this term excluding minorities including minority men, but this article when referring to the glass ceiling will encompass women, minorities, and minority men.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits anybody being denied job opportunities because of the color of their skin. That is still in full effect today.
This was a gender question.

Why would a corporation deny the best person for a high-paying job if that person would provide a greater income for the corporation? The purpose of corporations is ultimately to make the most amount of money for the stockholders, not for social engineering purposes (unless that makes the most amount of money).
You're assuming corporations can objectively appraise the best candidates. The claim is that people are biased towards those resembling themselves.
