If someone touches a candle not lit just holds a candle, will the wax leave a residue on their hands?

Depending if it was lit around an hour ago, if not then it will not.

Nothing to write home about.  If it is one of those scented candles what you smell is the perfume...which really does not mix with the wax, so that wipes off.

Depends on the wax and it's melting point. Paraffin wax has a low melt point and can start melting I'm your hands. Beeswax has a melt point so low it came be softened and shaped with nothing other than body heat. Candle wax is made of bees and paraffin wax so handling a candles can leave wax residue on your hands. Some types of paraffin wax can start to liquify when handled too long because it melts as low as 99F. If you are feverish then yes the candle will soften as you hold it even if the candle isn't lit.

Nothing that you would notice unless carbon from a burnt wick is picked up.
