Would Australians oppose a statue of Gandhi being erected in one of their cities due to his well documented racism?

Students in Manchester are demanding that the city council abandon their plans to erect a 9ft Gandhi statue in front of the Manchester Cathedral due to his well publicised racist views.

He often referred to black Africans as "savages", "uncivilised" and "dirty". He wanted the impoverished blacks in South Africa to be taxed at much higher rates than Europeans and Indians.

With the horrendously racist display from Bulgaria at the football the other day when playing against England, should more be done to not put controversial racists on a pedestal? Or should we just accept that Gandhi was from a different time when attitudes were different?

because Australia is largely anti-immigration regardless of colour, religion ect the more we push this fake multiculturalism the more likely the next generation is to believe it and ease tension. Its the bigger picture.

What does Gandhi have to do with Australia?

Forget his racism for a moment. What does Gandhi have to do with Australia in the first place?

He doesn’t have much to do with Australia but politicians will try to win the Indian vote regardless.
