XC meet - when & what to eat?
My son has a championship XC meet this weekend. Bus leaves at 3pm but he won’t race until 8pm. What & when should he eat? He’s allergic to nuts.

The most important thing is to stay hydrated. Keep a bottle of water and a bottle of gatorade and try to drink them both before the race starts. As for food, I would recommend eating a later lunch that day then just having light snacks throughout the afternoon as he is hungry. I would say to stop eating at least an hour and a half before the run, though. What he eats isn't crucially important, just make sure it's food he's used to eating and that doesn't have excess fat or fiber. When I ran in high school, I liked having Clif bars, pretzels, and the occasional gel handy.
