Why aren't women obligated by law to pay child support?

When a father wins custody, the mother can most certainly be required to pay child support. With that said, the majority of US family courts have long held a bias against men in such cases, especially with a child under school age. And in cases where the father does win custody, women are statistically more likely to skip out on child support payments than men.

Oh they are! If a man has legal custody of his child as the result of a court-order, and the mother is involved in the child's life, she is ordered to pay child support almost 100% of the time.

There are situations where the Courts will allow something different, if it's a mutual agreement between the parents before the court hearing for custody. But this isn't all that common.

In divorce settlements, the individual with the most income is expected to contribute the most to the children's support. In the last 20 or so years, women have been paying more and more, as their relative affluence increases.

Because the family court is almost exclusively a feminist sentencing hearing.... why?... because you gave women the right to vote, and they will ALWAYS outnumber you.

    Good job "egalitarians".

technically the parent who receives custody is awarded child support payments from the other parent. in practice, however, the courts favor women and almost universally award full custody to the mothers. thus the father is almost always saddled with paying support for the children to whom he has lost access. so much for gender equality.

What? Of course women are obligated to pay child support just as much as men. It just depends on income and custody.

They can be if the father wins custody of the child.  Then the woman pays child support to the man.

The real issue is that it is rare for the man to win custody of the children unless the mother has some kind of major flaw.  (some issue big enough to make her an "unfit" mother)  That also means that the woman is probably not in a situation to be able to pay child support.
