It’s ever so slightly phallic. Posing successfully with one foot on a monitor is very easy. Try doing that with an accordion.

Can you see somebody striking a pose and strumming a power chord on an accordian? Neither could Jimi Hendrix or Myron Floren.

you play it by fingering the female torso while gripping the phallic neck

Association. So many music legends of the 20th century played guitar, people who not only wrote/performed good music but were also style icons and cool in their own right - Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Prince, Joni Mitchell, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, even old timers like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and Django Reinhardt.

It's a similar thing with piano - the piano is a moderately respected instrument as there are a few well-known popular pianists - Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Billie Joel, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Ray Charles, Alicia Keys etc. However if you have someone who simply plays the piano or keyboards in a band? People don't even know their name - the reason piano is accepted is because it's the SINGER that's playing it.

If accordion had more than Weird Al that played it - in the popular music world anyway - it would probably be viewed a bit better.

I guess the music a guitar makes supposedly sounds “cooler”.
