is it necessary to image my windows 7?

someone told me a couple of weeks ago that i should 'image' my windows 7 desktop computer or hard drive, i think they meant system image back up possibly?

but a couple of problems and questions; why do i need to do that?

and i don't have any hardware or equipment at the moment to do an image of my windows 7 hard drive and can't afford the hardware right quite broke.

finally; i'm only a computer beginner and wouldn't know how to do an image of my windows 7 operating system.

so , given this, what should i do? can anyone see the dilemma i'm in?

plus to add, all my important media files are on my windows 7 machine, but i have backed most of them up to external hard drives now.

imaging is not necessary unless you are a business.

you can just buy a USB drive and copy your files to it to back them up.

    Shouldn't be necessary

It's just a way to backup and restore your data if there is any issues.
