Why does California have the biggest state population?

NY is 4th

What’s so good about California? Why are more people living there...

Is it better than NY or is there just more space to live there!

California is large by comparison to many other states, so more people can live there. For the most part, the weather is more pleasant than in many other states (especially the north), so, again, people will move there. Plus, there are more attractions to see than in many other places.

California and more land area than other states. When you look at population density (number of people per square mile), California is only ranked 17th. New York is 12th.

California coast has nice weather. LA county has over 10 million people. Most big tech companies are in or near San Francisco.

California is the third largest state (after Alaska and Texas), so about triple NY's size. Because it is stretched out North to South it has a very wide range of climates (year-round skiing a two hour drive from San Francisco, where it has snowed maybe four times in the last fifty years), home of major parts of the entertainment industry, major military and naval bases, tech industries. For decades NY had the largest population thanks to NY harbor and the Erie Canal. The latter is now obsolete, and the harbor has East Coast competitors in other states, while California's harbors dominate on the Pacific

CA is about 3 times the size of NY. It also has a lot of coast line where populations around the world tend to live

Of course TX is about 1.5x bigger than CA but less populated, because honestly, who really wants to live in Texas?

When it's 32 degrees - freezing rain, snow & 30 mph winds in January NY, it's 70's & sunshine in Southern California. I've spent winters in both states, and California winters are much much (much) nicer. Plus S Calif has Disneyland.

People are moving to the South & West for the weather.
