Depression is not always inherited. Even if it is, the form may be different. Depression runs in my maternal family, but my mother and I escaped it as did another of my siblings. Those of my relatives who've experienced it have experienced different forms, and these have ranged from mild to severe. No one's committed suicide.
You can't know in advance what your child might face. There are as yet no genetic tests for depression to provide you with any certainty. However, a child can face all kinds of problems that parents can't predict in advance. Having children is always something of a crapshoot. You just don't know what you'll get.
Presumably you have a psychiatrist, and it would be far more intelligent to discus this subject with him or her than to try to do it here on YA, where we don't have experts available to counsel you.
