In 1984, CompuServe debuted Islands of Kesmai, the first commercial multiplayer online role playing game.

"Brown Box" was the first gaming console for at home use in 1967. There were only six simple games for the console, namely ping-pong, tennis, handball, volleyball, chase games and a light-gun game.

The first popular one was Doom. There were others that came before that but they weren't very sophisticated and could only run on same type machines.
