Is it common for the stool to be part light brown and part a yellowish colour?

It happens. It could indicate problems with the bile duct.

Depends on the food you eat. If you eat lots of corn on the cob expect to see undigested corn. That is normal. Eat spinach and see a dark green stool. Eat a pound of black licorice and it will be near black.

It is for a baby. Not for an adult.
