Can someone please help with this physics question?

    a) IMO they are looking for the word "elasticity" here.

    young's Y = σ / ε = F/A / Δℓ/ℓ = Fℓ / AΔℓ

    and so

    Δℓ = Fℓ / AY

    If we set k = AY / ℓ

    when we can write

    Δℓ = F / k

    which looks an awful lot like Hooke's Law.

    b) I expect Y to decrease, since it will now compress (and so strain) more when a given load is applied.

    c) It divided Y by 3 (ignoring diameter changes in the rod).

    d) The rod lost its elasticity.
