Can someone please help with this physics question?

a) IMO they are looking for the word "elasticity" here.
young's Y = σ / ε = F/A / Δℓ/ℓ = Fℓ / AΔℓ
Δℓ = Fℓ / AY
If we set k = AY / ℓ
when we can write
Δℓ = F / k
which looks an awful lot like Hooke's Law.
b) I expect Y to decrease, since it will now compress (and so strain) more when a given load is applied.
c) It divided Y by 3 (ignoring diameter changes in the rod).
d) The rod lost its elasticity.
Hope this helps!
