Normally 8-10, but can range from 6-12, and yes, can be an odd number, they are not always evenly paired.

It is exactly what I think.

Assuming you mean teats or nipples, mine (an APBT that was apparently bred and overbred before she found herself unwanted and unloved in a city dog shelter) has 10. They are not perfectly aligned, side-to-side. They're offset.

If you mean teats, it varies. We hardly ever had big litters, but one with 9 surviving (we had another of 9 but due to vet incompetence, there were only 4 survived), managed just fine. I'd roll her over so a percentage could latch onto the lower level and then back for the rest to reach the upper level. That's when early days, they all seemed to want to latch on at the same time.

Isn't it one nipple/teat to one mammary gland? Why do you seek to clarify 'if you mean teats'? Pointless, huh?

Five on each side for a total of 10.
