Why are most sons closer to their mother and have a similar personality to them and same with father and daughter?

I don't agree with your premise. It's too much stereotyping.

That's not true, dear. Many daughters are not close to their fathers, and many sons are not close to their mothers. And personalities tend to be individual, not similar to a parent's.

They aren't, it just seems that way from your perspective. Each family has their own issues and typically an outsider has no clue what they are.

Many psychological studies often show that opposite sex parent's most often help shape how we connect to others as adults and model how relationships work, even romantic ones.

That can be true, but it says nothing about "closeness" or similarity of personality.
