Why are toddlers raised by single parents, so attached to that parent?

I think all toddlers are very much attached to their parents, whether they have one or two. It's the way of a baby. Kids who remain clingy and don't seek out any independence, are likely kids whose parents coddle them way too much.

My kids were very attached to me when toddlers, but the older they became, the more they asserted their independence, which is normal behavior. I encouraged them to try to do many things in their own.
