Can you get mad cow disease from eating steak?
What are the chances of getting mad cow disease if you ate steak every day provided that you live in Canada?

Mad Cow Disease is found in the brain of an animal. The brain and internal organs of a steer (a male bovine that's previously been castrated) that is slaughtered in a slaughter house for human consumption are examined by meat inspectors and must pass inspection before the meat is allowed to be put on the market.
Cows (female bovines) are not usually slaughtered for human consumption. Cows are raised to produce milk.

I don't know... i've been eating raw beef for about 50 years. I don't have mad cow disease and no parasites.

Creutzfedit- Jakob disease(subacute spongiform encephalopathy) is a progressive inevitable fatal infection that produces muscle spams and progressive loss of mental functions.
Creutzfeidt-Jakob- disease occurs throughout the world. Little is known about how it is usually spread. A few people have acquired it from receiving contaminated corneal or possibly other tissue transplants from infected donors or from contaminated instruments used during brain surgery. Growth hormones prepare from a cadaver's pituitary gland can also be the source of infection.( Synthetic growth hormone is available). The risk of the disease is slightly increased in people who have undergone brain surgery. A few pathologists have acquired Creutzfeidt-jakob disease presumably from cadavers.
Creutzfeidt-Jakob disease primarily affects adults, particularly those in the late 50s.The causative organism has been difficult to identify because no foreign RNA or DNA has been discovered in association with the disease. However, evidence indicates the presence of a specific protein called a prion in those with the disease.
A disease similar to Creutzfiedt-jakob disease occurs in sheep (scrapie) and cattle (mad cow disease). The infection is transmitted to offspring, and there is speculation that it can be acquired by eating infected tissues. Transmission across species of animals is uncertain, but it is suspected that the incidence of mad cow disease increased when cattle were fed sheep entrails, and human cases may have occurred when people ate affected beef.
For months or years after exposure, no symptoms occur.Slowly brain damage increases and loss of intellectual ability(dementia) becomes apparent. At first, the symptoms may resemble of other dementias--neglect of personal hygiene, apathy, irritability, forgetfulness and confusion. Some people tire easily, are sleepy, are unable to fall asleep, or suffer from other sleep disorders. Then the symptoms accelerate, usually much more rapidly than in Alzheimer's disease, until the person is profoundly demented.
Muscle twitching usually appears in the first 6 months after symptoms begin. Trembling, clumsiness, and peculiar body movements also may develop. Vision may become blurry or dim. Most people die, often of pneumonia, after about 3-12 months of illness. About 5-10 % of people survive for 2 yrs or more.
Creutzfeidt-Jakob disease can't be cured, and it's progress can't be slowed. A health care provider tries to make the person comfortable and treats the symptoms.

You cannot get mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) .... only cows can. Humans can get Variant Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease from the diseased animal. The highest risk to humans is from eating food contaminated with the brain, spinal cord, or digestive tract. Don't eat @ McDonalds!!
