When did the UK start printing alcohol percentages on their beer cans?

I'm gonna assume early 80's but I want more specific so I can date an old beer can I found. I remember before this they would have the "gravity" displayed on the can.

would appear to probably be 1st Jan 1980, when the old 'proof' measurement for spirits was replaced by ABV

I started drinking canned beer in 1983 and it only had % on it. Real Ale pubs, and some ordinary pubs in fact, still listed Original Gravity (O.G) - for example '1080' which had drastic effects on us.

Why are you reading the fine print? Just drink the beer and get happy.
