I found a website selling a painting that says 100 x 40cm is 40 x 16 inch witch I want to know if that is correct, if that is correct then what I am wanting to buy will work.

That's an approximate conversion. 2.5 cm to the inch.

It willl be a shade under the metric measurement because there are actually 2.54 cm to the inch.

You will be about 5/8ths under on the length and about a quarter on the width.

    100x40cm is about 39.370x15.748 in.

You can easily do conversions with google. Just type "100 cm to in"
