• "Why do dogs like meat so much?"
Because ANYTHING that gives a living thing an ADVANTAGE over other living things results in that ancestor having more offspring than the competitors do.
Much of modern thinking about evolution is the result of the insights developed by Charles Darwin.
is one of the 90,700,000 web-sites about him.
Dogs evolved from a line that was very good at CATCHING "meat" AND very good at DIGESTING "meat". And the most successful of them passed on to their offspring muscles that gave them the acceleration to catch up with prey, teeth & jaws to hold & tear apart prey, digestive acid & enzymes that are most effective at converting meat into the nutrients & sugars needed to feed those organs and keep them healthy.
🐶 Dogs developed as meat-eaters, known as CARNIVORES (🐕, 🐆, 🐩, 🐅, 🐈). Their stomach acid is MUCH stronger than ours - but their enzymes are very poor at dissolving cellulose (the wall of every cell in a plant) to release the carbohydrates (starches) that are inside plant cells. A dog has typically digested a meal of meat in about 4 hours.
🐴 VEGETARIAN animals (🐘, 🦏, 🐪, 🦛, 🐫 ,🦙, 🐏, 🐂, 🦘,🐄) developed enzymes that can dissolve cellulose - but even so it takes them a LONG time. Cows developed FOUR stomachs and they shift the grass/leaves backwards and forwards between them for 4 or more days.
👼🏽 We developed as OMNIVORES - able to digest both meats and starches. But we could not have evolved were our ancestors living in places with 4 seasons each year (with winter & spring being barren) - they evolved where some plants were able to flower & produce seeds all year around (but Earth's climates have changed many times since then!). And earliest Mankind survived on fruits such as apples, bananas, peaches cucumbers, dates, eggplants, figs, grapes, honeydew melons, etc, etc 🍌 🍉 🍇. But learning how to control fire allowed Mankind to also eat meat, and so we didn't need a digestion suited to JUST fruits.
is as good a place as any to start understanding the relationships between the animals whose ancestors were most well-fed and thus most fertile and so lived longer than the less-well-fed relatives and thus had the most offspring.
Taxonomy is the term for classifying all living things. If you've learned Latin many of those taxonomy terms will make sense to you. But as this is about DOGS

They're predators, they've got ten thousand generations of ancestors who survived on meat. I guess they've just gotten into the habit.

because that is what they are made to eat.

That's what dogs eat...they are meant to be carnivores.
Some silly vegan types try to get their poor pets to be vegan too...animal cruelty.

Because they are carnivores?
