Why did America elect a circus clown to be president?

A year ago, no one in the news media expected the presidential campaign of 2016 to bring echoes of 1968. Happily, no one has been assassinated, but the near riot at the recent Donald Trump rally in Chicago demonstrates the potential for the Republican convention in Cleveland this July to be tempestuous, not unlike the chaotic ’68 Democratic convention.

Because a two party system means that you pretty much have to vote for whoever you felt was the least reprehenisble, and the current crop of candidates is particuarly thin.

We didn't. Hillary won 99% of the popular vote but the russians and electoral college turned it around.

America elected a circus clown president to juggle the budget, poke fun at the peanut gallery and fire the previous clown from a cannon with no net.

Isn't it obvious? Americans are dull. Especially conservatives. They are more interested in lies and immediate, short-term gratification than seeing consequences ahead. They lack good reasoning skills and are lemmings for demagogues like DJT, the Chief Jester of the United States.
