What would you expect to see on a medical image of a herniated disc?

The A herniated disc (also called a bulged, slipped or ruptured) disc is a fragment of the disc nucleus that is pushed out of the annulus, into the spinal canal through a tear or rupture in the annulus. Discs that become herniated usually are in an early stage of degeneration.
You'll see a bulge, or
you'll see a piece, or
you'll see discoloring of the disk
or you might see the bones above & below out of alignment.
and actually a lot of different looks

Probably a bit of spine and a bit stickin' out slightly and the image on screen would look a bit like if you were using night vision - only black and white instead of green (that's cause it's an x-ray see)Source(s): medical image
