Why was Religion such a major part of Medieval (middle ages) art?

    The Catholic Church was very powerful during the Medieval Period. Religion became a source of inspiration for many artists. Also, the Catholic Church paid artists to create religious works of art. For some artists, the patronage of the Catholic Church was their only income.
