Is it common for 5 month old babies to be able to sit up without help?

My baby is going to be 6 months in less than 2 weeks and he can sit up without any help. Once in a while he falls over but he can sit up by himself for a while. Is this common or is my baby advanced in this area?

The average milestone for sitting up is six months.

So, your baby is just about on time. It is not far enough ahead to be considered "advanced" since six months is just an AVERAGE meaning that some will sit up sooner while others may be a little later and all would still be considered NORMAL.

Yes, that's great! My friends baby girl is almost 4 months and can sit up without help. She also walks in her walker

Between 4 and 7 months. By 8 months a baby should be able to sit up for a while without help. Then comes walking and talking, and by maybe 12 years old he should be able to play the accordion.
