Is changing my second name to my mother's side offensive to my Father?

No, I can't see why your father would think so. You are recognizing your mother's name, and that's just as reasonable as using your father's surname.

You can change your name to anything you want, but unless you go through the Courts, it's not your legal name. So on official documents you have to use your given name.... unless, of course, you want to spend hundreds of dollars to change it legally, but i don't see the point.

That depends on what your father is like, what the family dynamics are like (recent divorce? suspicion that your father isn't your biological father? In-law problems?), and what rationale you provide for doing this.

Yes, it certainly IS...a child should always take its father's surname...it's traditional !

Is your second name stupid? Is it hard to pronounce? Or is it a very common name like "Smith" or "Jones"? If you simply don't like it for any of those reasons, then that is on you. You either suck it up and live with it forever, or get married and then take on your spouse's name. It doesn't matter if you're marrying somebody that is your same gender either. Some people get married to somebody, even if they don't love them, but they love their last name. These are good reasons to change the name without fear of offending your father. But if you just change it because you like your mother's name better of course your father will be hurt.

You would have to ask your father. We don't know anything about how he would feel about anything.
