How low of an oil level would be too low?

2drops is enough. The marks on the dipstick don't mean anything.

I would not let the level get off the dip stick, that is about two quarts. It gets lower than that the engine starts to make noise, like it's teeth are charting.

I think it’s self explanatory

On that falls below the oil pump suction tube causing you to loose oil pressure. Usually it the level falls off the dipstick at this point.

One fourth of one quart. Don't drive with low oil level.

Anything more than a full quart (liter) low is TOO low.

When the oil level is lower then half way between the dipstick marks. Regular oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles and synthetic oil every 5,000 miles.
You also need to check the oil level every 1,000 and top it up.Source(s): Mitsubishi Master Tech

when its below the low level line on the dipstick
- JazSincLv 78 months ago
o If the "engine oil pressure" light comes on, you have a problem.
o If the dipstick measurement is below the lower fill line (or not visible at all), then that's too low.
o If the oil level is below the lower fill line in the sighting glass on the side of the engine, then that's too low.
