Why can you still be convicted of Assault if you use your dog as a weapon?

Someone was convicted of Assault today, after she used her dog as a “weapon” to attack someone of another color and nationality.

Because the dog can't be held responsible, and you are responsible for what your dog does. You're supposed to keep it under control.

Telling the dog to attack someone is the same as hitting them with a bat because you control what the dog does

Animals are property under the law. That makes a dog no different in the eyes of the law than a knife, baseball bat, gun or any object that can be used to assault another person.

If you are the owner of an animal and you release the animal off of its leash. You have immediately broken the law. If you send your animal after somebody you're responsible for whatever that animal happens to do. If you have a pitbull dog and you send it after another person as a weapon and there is no threat of deadly force from the other person and your animal happens to kill that person you're going to prison for premeditated murder! It's very simple you would not have released the animal against the person if you did not intend harm to the person! Just try to prove to the judge and to the jury that you released your animal so that the person could be licked to death! No friend you released your animal against the other person so that your animal could bite the other person! Animals can kill you by biting! you can get charged with aggravated assault if you're lucky you can also get charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to murder!

Because it's the same as any other weapon, why would you NOT be held accountable for that?

You answered your own question. The dog was used as a weapon for the assault.

You are in control of the dog. No different than being in control of a knife or a gun.

Legally, assault is considered any physical harm that is intentionally inflicted on someone. So yes, siccing a dog on somebody is considered assault in the eyes of the law.

If you have a trained attack dog and you order that dog to attack someone, it's just as if you used a gun, a baseball bat or any other weapon to assault anyone for any reason save self defense.
