Has a fish ever died from you taking it out of the tank?

The other day I took my frontosa out of the tank put it in a 6 ft tank got scared that he would get eaten or picked on then scooped him up 5 seconds after putting him in and put him back in his original tank how does this kill a fish

It causes extreme stress. Fish are very prone to stress, and like humans (if levels are high enough) they can die. It can also be due to the fact that you did not acclimate him so the sudden difference in water was a shock to his immune system. Fish must be slowly introduced to new water and there are some good YouTube videos that you could watch to help you learn how best to do it

It causes shock - water temperature, oxygen level, stress.

    Not very smart.

If the temperature or ph is different in the other tank, then he could have gone into shock, and then if you netted him and took him out of the water again while he was already shocked, and put him into diiiferent water again, yes that could possibly kill a fish.

Possibly if the second tank, water wasn’t right temp or didn’t have the right “chemicals” in it..

They need their water to have the 'bubbles' of air coming up through it, as they use up the oxygen in small bowls, so they die.

Fish breath through their gills intended to get their oxygen from water.

They can easily survive several minutes out of water, some types of fish quite long.

As long as their gills don't dry and returned to a decent water, they can survive

Some marine life like rays and octopus can survive hours out of water and don't forget crabs. Those always start life in water but survive on land with enough humidity their gills don't dry. Hermit crabs are like that.
